2014: Assessment: Motivating, Evaluating and Supporting Learning Collection home page

The 2014 conference theme, Assessment: Motivating, Evaluating and Supporting Learning. Assessment touches almost every aspect of learning and teaching. As learners, it focuses our attention on what we need to learn, motivates us to devote our personal resources to learning, and provides feedback on our achievements and where we need to apply more effort. Assessment also has an evaluative component. As teachers, one of our most challenging tasks is to interpret all of the evidence we have collected about students’ learning and express it as a grade that will be perceived as fair and accurate. This conference offered an opportunity for colleagues and students from a broad range of disciplines to explore diverse perspectives on how we can best leverage assessment to support learning and effective evaluation. Dr David Green, Director, Center for Faculty Development, Seattle University, delivered an inspiring keynote, "Fair Judgement? Faculty preconceptions of student success". Dr Green is a co-editor of the International Journal for Academic Development and the co-author of: Popovic. C., & Green, D. A. (2012). Understanding undergraduates: Challenging our preconceptions of student success. New York & London: Routledge.

Held at the University of Calgary, May 13-14, 2014.
